Using our study of plant structures from observational drawing, sixth graders invented their own plant species! They had to consider where it would live, what it would do, and how it would look. We then sculpted them out of clay and used tempera paint and Mod Podge for color. They also created an illustration to accompany them.
To gather knowledge on the structure of plants, sixth graders observed artificial flowers for a number of days. Drawing from observation like a scientist, students focused on composition, proportion, and value.
