Students selected a historical figure or person of influence as inspiration for this clay unit. After researching their life, where they lived, and how they contributed to history, students designed a place setting complete with food if they invited this person over for a meal. Various clay hand building techniques were used such as wedging, slab rolling, and attaching clay to itself. While their work was being fired, students studied color theory and practiced mixing the paint colors they would need to best imitate their food. Name cards were the finishing touch for the place settings!
