To prepare for their clay project, students observed (plastic) food and drew it from observation. Drawings showed a good sense of value, composition, proportion, and craftsmanship.
Sixth graders selected a book they enjoyed reading and designed a new cover for it. Looking at artists like Mikey Burton and Henri Matisse for inspiration, students used cut paper method to create clear, clean symbols.
Notan is a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark as they are placed next to each other. Sixth graders demonstrated contrast by selecting two complementary colors for their design. They first drew their design, then cut out pieces and reflected them over an axis to achieve their results.
