After becoming familiar with shoes from observation drawing, students used their brains to do some serious innovating! Each student went through a idea development process to invent their own shoe. Students were to consider both the function and aesthetic quality of their shoe and some fantasy elements were incorporated. In order to sell our shoe, students designed a print advertisement that would be found in a magazine. We looked at different ways to sell our product including typography, color schemes, slogans, and visual elements.
To get familiar with shoe structures and observation drawing, students chose to draw their shoe or one that belonged to Ms. Schmelter. It may have been a little stinky, but students created some great drawings that utilized proportion, composition, and value.
To get to know each other, each student had to create a cover for their sketchbook that represents their identity. Students were encouraged to use a variety of images to represent themselves and had to include their name and one drawing.
